Adoration Of The Magi

2020

Inspired by the oil painting Adoration of the Magi (Peter Paul Rubens c1700) found in Astley Hall archives, Doyle investigated the Epiphany during this solo residency and exhibition at Astley Hall Coach House Gallery, UK throughout the month of January.

The 6th January is the feast of the Epiphany which celebrates the visit of The Three Kings (also known as The Three Wise Men or The Magi) to baby Jesus where they endowed him with gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Doyle used contemporary print, craft and action research to reframe this holy story with focus on journey, the male gaze, and a new narrative through the lens of Mary.
