The Menstruation Project
2016
This project encompasses a series of works that depict menstruation with real blood. The series was documented in a booklet and accompanied by hay bales in installation to simulate menstrual rituals whereby huts are used as a place of isolation by certain cultures with strong menstrual taboos. Alternatively, these huts are sometimes used as celebratory and uniting spaces.
Inside the book are the Hannah and Alma menstrual prints which demonstrate period blood as examples of the fluid we once made our home. The rest of the book hosts text based and photographic international submissions of menstrual blood and miscarriage blood. These submissions were made to an open call to archive visual relationships and experiences with menstruation.
